Poseidon Half Marathon

An eco-friendly running event along Athens’ glorious seafront

What could be a more eco-activity than running along an Athenian sea front?  In Faliro, the area south of central Athens, the 7th annual Poseidon Athens Half Marathon takes place April 24, 2016. But if you are not a marathon runner, don’t fret!  Check out the other events going on for different ages and abilities.  . . .

Children 12 years old and younger feel great pride when they pass the finish line of the Chiquita Athens Kid Run.  If you want to take part with your best buddies, register for the Relay Half Marathon.  Power Walkers have their own competition.  Do a good deed by signing up for the Charity Run to raise funds for your favorite organization.   There’s also a Quarter Marathon if you are not feeling up to a full Half Marathon.

The Poseidon Half Marathon event is characterized as an eco-race because the organizers are eco-conscious.  They seek to reduce the carbon footprint by offering digital registration so that no paper is used.  They provide recycling during the race for such as debris as soda cans and paper.  The website includes nutrition tips from a dietician to encourage a healthy diet.  The fact that the organization is primarily managed and undertaken by volunteers adds a powerful social significance to the whole event.

Even if you come simply as a spectator you will have a great time watching the runners, as well as taking the opportunity to stroll the beautiful Flisvos Marina with its trendy cafes and sports shops.

Everyone is a winner just by showing up to this delightful event along Athens’ expansive sea front.
