Like all European countries, Greece has a history of royal rulers. A fascinating story awaits guests who visit Tatoi, the once summer retreat of Greece’s modern royal family from the 19 th and 20 thcenturies. The grounds are a nature haven these days with paths, flora, abandoned buildings and the Royal Tombs. A guided tour enlivens the guests’ understanding of who these royals were and
what happened to them.
The tour’s next stop, Queen Amalia palace, is an enjoyable peek into a preserved estate with astounding parquet floors, art and design. A highlight is the wine tasting from the wines the
palace estate itself produces.
Ancient Greek royalty is represented in the tour by a stop at the amazing Menidi Tomb that has the classic features of the Mycenae era: long entrance, beehive ceiling and stone masonry.
The tomb isover 3000 years old and held the king and lord governor of that era. It was excavated in 1879.
This last stop is Zefiro’s Experience which focuses on preserving Greece’s traditional arts, crafts and culture.
In addition to a lunch of Greek specialties, guests are also treated to a tour of the grounds and demonstration of bread making from a traditional oven.
